Honeydew in Italy

HONEYDEW MAIOLO

Spread over 5 hectares (12 acres), the property in Maiolo is the ideal inaugural site for Honeydew. The location is majestic, facing the historic town of San Leo “the most beautiful in Italy” according to Nobel Laureate Umberto Eco.

First built as a hotel in the 1970s, the site served as the Osho Circle School from 2000-2016 and remains well-equipped for community life, with 30 ensuite rooms, including ten bungalows.

Maiolo is a short drive from the ancient coastal town of Rimini, famous for its Roman architecture, and 30 minutes from the principality of San Marino. Two of Italy’s most beautiful cities, Bologna and Ravenna, are easily reachable by train. Honeydew is 45 minutes from Rimini’s Federico Fellini International Airport.

La Festa del Pane

Maiolo, the home of Honeydew, is one of 50 towns in Italy celebrated for its unique artisanal breadDozens of ovens are still in active use, baking the local soft wheat known as gentilrosso. The region is famous for a distinctive type of focaccia called spianata romagnola, made with rosemary, olive oil and coarse salt, and served with cold cuts and local cheeses.

Come join us in the last weekend of June for the inauguration of Honeydew, as we welcome locals to meet our community. During the festival, you’ll be able to visit the itinerant Bread Museum, hosted in the houses of former farmers, shepherds and woodcutters who made bread here for more than two centuries. The festival will offer a taste of tradition – from dancing in the main square on Saturday evening to the ‘Blessing of the Bread and Solemn Holy Mass’ and a selection of delectable dishes, including “tagliatelle and ravioli with butter and sage or with wild boar” or a selection of piadine, a flatbread originating from nearby Rimini.
